Valley View School Board

Our school board is dedicated to fostering an environment where every student can achieve academic excellence and personal growth in a safe and supportive setting.

As elected representatives of our community, we are committed to making informed decisions that shape the future of our schools. Our responsibilities include:

  • Policy Development: Crafting and implementing policies that promote high educational standards and equity.
  • Budget Oversight: Ensuring that financial resources are allocated efficiently and effectively to support student learning and well-being.
  • Superintendent Supervision: Collaborating with and providing oversight for the Superintendent to ensure the district's strategic goals are met.
  • Curriculum and Instruction: Evaluating and approving curricula that meet the diverse needs of our students and prepare them for future success.
  • Facilities Management: Overseeing the maintenance and improvement of school facilities to provide a safe and conducive learning environment.
  • Community Engagement: Encouraging active participation from parents, students, teachers, and community members to foster a collaborative educational community.

The Board of Trustees is a policy-making body of persons elected by the citizens of a school district. The school administration executes the policies that it establishes. Board members have no authority except when functioning as a board member in an official meeting.

Candidates run for specific places but do not represent certain geographical areas. Following the annual election, the Board elects a president, a vice-president, and a secretary to serve one-year terms.

Meet the Board Members

 

The Valley View ISD Board of Trustees meets once per month during the school year at the Bob Andrew Ag Science Center.

  • Eric Vann was appointed to the Board of Trustees on August 11, 2021.  He earned a Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing from Tarleton State University in 1999.  He has spent the majority of his career in the welding and cutting industry.  Eric has volunteered on the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo's Agriculture Mechanics Committee for the last decade and supports vocational education programs.  He and his wife, Kacye, have two children attending school in VVISD.  Eric enjoys hunting, fishing, and watching New York Yankees baseball.

    1st Term (Term Ends Spring 2027)

    Brian Hoffman was born and raised in Cheyenne, Wyoming. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and completed a four-year term of service. Following his service, Brian moved to North Texas and attended North Central Texas College for one year, where he met and married his wife in 2002.

    He began working in the automotive industry in 2001 and continues in that field today. Over the past seven years, Brian has partnered with multiple schools to help educate students about career opportunities in the trades.

    He has one child who graduated from Valley View ISD and three more currently attending the district.

    One of Brian’s greatest joys is helping others learn how to help themselves succeed.

    2nd Term (Term Ends May 2026)

    Cathy Ritchey joined the Valley View ISD Board of Trustees in May 2020. She is currently serving her second term, which began in May 2023.

    Cathy is a proud product and strong advocate of public education. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Texas A&M University and a Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology from Stephen F. Austin State University. Cathy spent most of her career as an associate psychologist in the state’s juvenile prison system.

    She has been deeply involved in Valley View ISD for many years—volunteering, serving as a past PTO board member, participating in various committees, and attending countless school events to support students in academics, athletics, fine arts, and FFA.

    Cathy and her husband have two daughters who attend Valley View ISD. She enjoys reading, cheering on her girls in their activities, and traveling with her family.

    1st Term

    Charlie Pickett grew up in the “Show Me State” of Missouri. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in Christian Education, specializing in children and youth, from Southwestern Assemblies of God University in 1999. Charlie has spent most of his career in ministry, serving as a children’s and youth pastor as well as a lead pastor. He currently works as a Sales Manager with Dallas Lease Returns.

    Charlie has been married to his wife, Nicki, for 21 years. They have three children: Jayden, a sophomore at the University of Arkansas; Carson, an 11th grader at Valley View ISD; and John Carter, a 7th grader at Valley View ISD.

    In his free time, Charlie enjoys watching sports—especially the Dallas Cowboys and St. Louis Cardinals.

    Chris Byrom was appointed to the Valley View ISD Board of Trustees in May 2021. He and his family moved to Valley View in the summer of 2016, and his youngest son is a proud graduate of Valley View.

    Since joining the community, Chris has remained actively involved—serving as a City Council Alderman and as Football Commissioner for the Valley View Youth Sports Association. He currently owns a flooring company in Southlake.

    In his free time, Chris enjoys traveling, fishing, volunteering, and spending time with his wife, Rachael, their five children, and six grandsons.

Valley View ISD Schedule of Meetings

Valley View ISD Board meetings are open to the public. All regular meetings of the Valley View Board of Education are conducted on the third Monday of each month (unless otherwise noted), beginning at 6:00 p.m., located in the Bob Andrew Ag Science Center. 

The Board may, however, adjourn to an executive session to discuss personnel matters or land acquisitions, obtain certain legal counsel and discuss litigation, or discuss cases involving the discipline of a student enrolled in public school.

In addition to the regular monthly Board meetings, the Bond Planning and Oversight Community Planning meetings take place on the first Monday of each month.
