School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)
The Valley View ISD School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) works with the district to help ensure that local community values are reflected in health education and related school health programs.
Under Texas Education Code §28.004, each school district is required to establish a local School Health Advisory Council. The district must consider SHAC recommendations before making changes to its health education curriculum or instruction.
What Does SHAC Do?
SHAC serves in an advisory role and makes recommendations to the Valley View ISD Board of Trustees on topics that support student health and well-being, including:

Substance abuse prevention

School health and mental health services

Required District Statements
Under Texas Education Code § 28.004(k), Valley View ISD provides the following statements on district health policies, physical activity requirements, School Health Advisory Council (SHAC) meetings, and student wellness. These disclosures help keep families and community members informed about the district's compliance with state requirements.

1. District policies ensure that elementary and middle school students engage in the amount and level of physical activity required by Education Code § 28.002(l). Tex. Educ. Code § 28.004(k)(2)
2. The SHAC met two times during the 2026–2027 school year. Tex. Educ. Code § 28.004(k)(3)(A)
3. VVISD complies with Texas Education Agency vending machine and food service guidelines for restricting student access to vending machines. Tex. Educ. Code § 28.004(k)(3)(B)
4. VVISD has adopted and enforces policies that prescribe penalties for the use of e-cigarettes and tobacco products by students and others on school campuses or at school-sponsored events. Tex. Educ. Code § 28.004(k)(3)(C)
5. Parents may request in writing their child's physical fitness assessment results at the end of the school year. Tex. Educ. Code § 28.004(k)(4)
